Skyhawks drop Millersville, East Stroudsburg for the sweep

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (October 23, 2010) – The Stonehill College volleyball team swept both ends of an East Stroudsburg University tri-match on Saturday. The Skyhawks nipped Millersville University 3-2 (27-25, 23-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-10) in the opening match before defeating host East Stroudsburg 3-0 (27-25, 25-22, 25-21) in the late game.

Senior Erin Johnson (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable) led the way for the Skyhawks in a tightly contested match against Millersville, landing 17 kills with no errors for a team-leading .459 hitting percentage. Seniors Laura Noonan (Hampstead, N.H./Bishop Guertin) and Anna Berthiaume (Somersworth, N.H./Somersworth) were solid up front, as Noonan collected 11 kills and four blocks and Berthiaume posted seven kills and eight blocks.

Four Skyhawks posted double figures in digs, led by 17 from sophomore Erin Kelly (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) and 16 from senior setter Andrea Wirth (Mesa, Ariz./St. Mary's), who also racked up 43 assists.

The two sides alternated set wins, beginning with a narrow 27-25 win for Stonehill in the first set, and the Skyhawks closed it out in the fifth game by a 15-10 margin.

Junior Laura Huselton (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) tallied a game-high 17 kills and added 10 digs and a solo block as the Skyhawks downed East Stroudsburg in three sets. Stonehill also got double figures in kills from freshmen Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) and Kirsten Arvidson (Andover, Mass./Andover), who put down 11 and 10 respectively. Wirth collected 42 assists in just three sets as the team compiled a .256 hitting percentage in the victory.
