Skyhawks open Bentley Invitational with a
victory
WALTHAM, Mass. (September 10, 2010) – The
Stonehill College volleyball team swept their opening match of the
Bentley Invitational on Friday, posting a decisive 3-0 victory
(25-13, 25-17, 25-14) over Georgian Court University.
Junior Laura
Huselton (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) led the Stonehill
attack with eight kills, and senior Laura Noonan
(Hampstead, N.H./Bishop Guertin) added seven kills and
compiled a .333 hitting percentage. Senior setter Andrea Wirth
(Mesa, Ariz./St. Mary's) collected 25 assists on the
night.
Freshmen Sydney Maxey
(Hutto, Texas/Hutto) and Vivian
Fitzgerald (Winfield, Ill./Aurora Central Catholic)
made an impact on defense for the Skyhawks, as Maxey totaled a
game-high 12 digs and Fitzgerald recorded six.
Georgian Court got five kills apiece from sophomores Amy Berry
(Bayville, NJ/Manchester Regional) and Brandi Arsenault (Honolulu,
HI/Toms River South), and were led on defense by eight digs from
Berry and freshman Nicole Sparks (Songtan, South Korea/Osan
American).
Stonehill (1-3, 0-0 NE-10) will take on Holy Family University
and the University of Bridgeport tomorrow at 1 and 3 p.m. to
conclude the Bentley Invitational. Georgian Court (0-5, 0-0 CACC)
will take on Bridgeport and the University of New Haven.
