Box Score 2 Skyhawks fall to American International and
NYIT
OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (September 18, 2010) –
The Stonehill College volleyball team lost two 3-0 decisions on
Saturday in a non-conference tri-match at New York Institute of
Technology. The Skyhawks fell to American International College 3-0
(25-17, 26-24, 25-20) in the early game, and lost to NYIT 3-0
(25-17, 25-20, 25-23) in the afternoon.
American International 3, Stonehill 0
After dropping the first set, Stonehill battled to within two
points in the second set but could not rally past American
International, who had three players finish with double figures in
kills. The Skyhawks were led by five kills apiece from seniors
Andrea Wirth (Mesa, Ariz./St. Mary's) and
Erin Johnson (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable),
junior Laura Huselton (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield),
and freshman Rachel Sperando (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings
Park). Freshman Sydney Maxey (Hutto,
Texas/Hutto), last week's Northeast-10 Conference
Rookie of the Week, recorded a game-high 13 digs.
NYIT 3, Stonehill 0
Johnson led the Stonehill offense against NYIT with eight kills,
and Huselton and Maxey each tallied six. Senior Justine Thompson (Merrimack, N.H./Bishop Guertin) recorded nine
digs. NYIT was led by a game-high 23 digs from junior Lisa Peacock
(Lindenhurst, N,Y./Suffolk C.C.), and 13 kills from junior Ali
Falbo (Costa Mesa, Calif./Edison). Freshman Shelby Cable (DeSoto,
Mo./DeSoto) and junior Kubra Kuzu (Istanbul, Turkey/Ar-El) each
added 11 kills in the victory.
Stonehill (2-6, 0-0 NE-10) will play the first home match of the
season on September 22 against Merrimack at 7 p.m.
