NYACK, N.Y. (September 4, 2010) –
Stonehill College opened the 2010 season with a 1-0 victory at
Nyack College in non-conference men’s soccer action
Saturday.
Junior forward Michael
White (Lisbon, N.H./Lisbon Regional) netted the
game-winner at 69:58, knocking in a header off a free kick by
sophomore Anthony
Campagnano (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland). Nyack
junior Gavin Penny (Dagenham, England) took the Warriors’
lone second-half shot on goal in the 86th minute, but Stonehill
senior goalkeeper Brandon
McFarlane (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) turned
back the potential equalizer to preserve the win, finishing with
four saves on the day.
The Skyhawks managed only four shots in the first half to
Nyack’s seven, but McFarlane kept them in the game with three
first-half saves, and the Stonehill offense came back in the second
frame to outshoot the Warriors 13-4 and net the eventual
winner.
Freshman Felix Horn (Haille, Germany) and senior Bobby Caskran
(Valrico, Fla.) led Nyack’s offensive efforts with three
shots each. Senior Adrian Ibanez (Buenos Aires, Argentina) made
eight saves in the Warrior net.
Stonehill (1-0, 0-0 NE-10) returns to action on Wednesday to
take on American International College at Skyhawk Field at 4 p.m.
Nyack (1-1, 0-0 CACC) will face Philadelphia University at home on
September 11 at 2:30 p.m.
