Frantz nets pair to lead
Warriors back from an early deficit
EASTON, Mass. (September 5,
2010) – East Stroudsburg University scored three
unanswered goals to come back from an early one goal deficit and
claim a 3-1 victory over fourth-ranked Stonehill College in a
non-conference field hockey matchup at W.B. Mason Stadium this
afternoon.
Senior Jessica Frantz
(Kunkletown, Pa./Pleasant Valley) scored twice to lead
East Stroudsburg, while classmate Brittany Kocis
(Mechanicsville, Pa./Central Bucks East) contributed a
goal and assist. Another senior, Joanna Reckley (Temple,
Pa./Muhlenberg) chipped in with an assist.
Junior goalkeeper Maureen
Ordnung (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) preserved the win with
five saves for ESU, which finished with a 14-6 advantage in shots
for the contest, limiting Stonehill to just one shot in the second
half. Senior Courtney Osier
(South Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) posted seven stops
in the cage for the Skyhawks.
Senior Lindsey
Pinkham (Skowhegan, Maine/Skowhegan) scored the lone
Stonehill goal. That goal opened the scoring 14:48 into the contest
as she followed her own penalty corner pass and one-timed a pass
from the upper left corner of the arc by classmate Courtney Foley
(Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield Memorial) at the far post.
Frantz keyed the East Stroudsburg
rally with two goals in just over a nine-minute span. She knotted
the score at 21:45 when she one-timed a near waist-high drive at
the center of the arc off a drive from just outside by Reckley.
Frantz put the Warriors in front just past the half hour mark when
she drilled a shot into the cage off a penalty corner from
Kocis.
Kocis provided an insurance goal
for East Stroudsburg with less than 12-minutes remaining in
regulation when she scored with a drive from the left side of the
arc at 58:50.
Stonehill (0-2, 0-0 NE-10) returns
to action on Wednesday when it hosts Assumption College for a
non-conference matchup at 4 p.m. East Stroudsburg (2-0, 0-0 PSAC)
is off until next Sunday when it hosts Adelphi University at 1
p.m.
