Skyhawks open up 2011 season with non-conference victory

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (September 2, 2011) – The Stonehill College women's volleyball team swept its 2011 season opening match versus LIU-C.W. Post, 3-0, by scores of 26-24, 25-23 and 25-14 in non-conference action Friday evening at the Kutztown University Classic.

Sophomore outside hitter Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutton) led the Skyhawks attack which came-from-behind in the first two sets with eight kills and 12 digs. Freshman setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) facilitated the offense with 25 assists and chipped in with five digs.

Senior outside hitter Laura Huselton (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) and sophomore outside hitter Rachel Sperando (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) contributed with six kills apiece.

Defensively, Jessica Frankowski (Unionville, Conn./Farmington) and Erin Kelly (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) added nine digs each.

Stonehill (1-0, 0-0 NE-10) returns to action tomorrow in the Kutztown University Classic with a 10 a.m. match scheduled against Kutztown University and a 2 p.m. contest versus the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. C.W. Post (0-1, 0-0 ECC) takes on Saint Rose at 1 p.m. and wraps up its doubleheader against the host team, Kutztown University, at 6 p.m.
