Conte makes eight saves, Weber nets goal for Skyhawks

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (September 30, 2022) – Long Island University jumped out to a three-goal lead in the first half on its way to a 4-1 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast Conference field hockey action at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium this afternoon.

Highlights

• LIU got goals from four different players in the win, with junior Micaela Skibski opening the scoring in the seventh minute to spark a three-goal first half for the Sharks.
• Senior Maggie Streichert and freshman Talia Seale split the goalkeeping duties for LIU, with Streichert making one save in a shutout first half.
• Sophomore Shannon Conte went the full 60-minutes in goal for Stonehill and finished with eight saves.
• Senior Madi Weber scored her first goal of the season and eighth of her career to put Stonehill on the scoreboard. Freshman Sarah Latham assisted on the goal to mark her first collegiate point.

How It Happened

• Skibski opened the scoring 6:02 into the game when she netted her first goal of the season off a feed from senior Felicia King.
• LIU struck twice in the second quarter to open a three-goal halftime lead. Junior Emilce Paez scored 6:57 into the frame off a pass from senior Kaitlyn Olton, before freshman Jules Kuzmich scored her fourth of the year, from postgrad Emma Braeckmans with 1:16 left in the half.
• Freshman Victoria Nazar gave the Sharks a four-goal cushion with her first collegiate goal 9:43 into the second half.
• Weber's first goal of the season, from Latham, broke up the shutout bid with 3:23 to play.

Stonehill (1-5, 0-1 NEC) is back in action next Friday, October 7, when it hosts former Northeast-10 Conference rival Merrimack College for its much-awaited first Division I home game at W.B. Mason Stadium at 3 p.m. LIU (4-6, 1-0 NEC) visits Penn on Sunday at noon.
