The Details

  • A little over ten minutes into the half (13:55), the Purple Eagles struck first when Sanchez sent his shot past Coutu for an early 1-0 advantage. Sanchez struck again 15 minutes later (28:46) for his second goal of the afternoon and doubled the Niagara lead.
  • Stonehill and Niagara continued to battle for the rest of the half and as the first was coming to an end (44:37), Hadzic fired his shot past Barry and cut the deficit to one (2-1) entering halftime.
  • However, not even a minute into the second half (45:44), Almeida drew a penalty kick and put his shot past Coutu, and gave back the two-goal lead for Niagara (3-1).
  • From that point, the Skyhawks defense and Coutu did not allow a goal for the rest of the half to keep the squad within striking distance. As the match went on, the Skyhawks struck late (84:42) to cut the Purple Eagles lead back to one (3-2) when Woznicki found the back of the net.
  • Despite the late goal, Stonehill could not grab the equalizer as Niagara held on for the one-goal win.
  • Coutu finished the day with six saves and is the second time this season he finished with five or more saves.
  • Niagara outshot the Skyhawks, 20-11 but in the second half, the two sides were nearly tied as the Purple Eagles barely outshot Stonehill by a 7-6 margin. Both sides ended the day tied in corner kicks (6-6).
