Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (October 14, 2023) – The Stonehill College women's volleyball team fell in three sets in a Northeast Conference matchup against Long Island University at the Steinberg Wellness Center Saturday night, 3-0 (23-25, 23-25, 19-25).

Senior Lauren McCloskey (Salem, N.H./Salem) recorded a team-high eight kills, also notching one block assist and one dig with a 46.7% kill percentage. Freshman Abby Farrell (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) had six kills and one solo block as she recorded seven points in the loss. Junior Emma Graves (Berkshire, N.Y./Newark Valley) had five kills with one dig. Sophomore Mia Berardino (Rowley, Mass./Triton Regional) had three kills and a team-high 12 digs with a service ace and a solo block. freshman Amaya Parnell (Pepperell, Mass./Lincoln Sudbury) notched a team-high 15 assists and four service aces while sophomore Delaney Mihelich (Fullerton, Calif/Rosary Academy) had 11 assists, four digs, and a service ace.
How it Happened
SET 1 | Long Island went ahead early in the first set 12-8 before Stonehill tied the score with a 4-0 run at 12-12. The Sharks went on a 6-2 run to take an 18-14 lead, but the Skyhawks retaliated to tie the score at 22-22. Three of the next five points went to LIU as they won the first set 25-23.
SET 2 | Long Island took a 4-1 lead to start the second set, but the Skyhawks went on an 8-3 run to flip the score and take the lead 9-7. The conference opponents tied each other 11 times during the second set as they found themselves tied at 23-23 with neither team taking a lead larger than three points. The final two points of the set went to the Sharks as they won the frame and took a 2-0 lead in the match.
SET 3 | The Sharks went ahead 5-1 and eventually took a seven-point lead as LIU led 10-3 to start the third set. The Skyhawks went on a 7-3 scoring run to trim their deficit to three points (14-11). Stonehill came within one point (16-15) but LIU responded with a 5-1 run to go up five points (21-16). The Sharks closed out the set and the match as they won 25-19 to pick up their fourth conference win of the season.
