BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (October 21, 2023) – The Stonehill College women's ice hockey team shut out Saint Anselm College in a NEWHA conference matchup at the Bridgewater Ice Arena, 4-0, Saturday afternoon.

Highlights

• Junior goaltender Hanna Zukow recorded 26 saves in their second shutout of the season for the Skyhawks.
• Four different Stonehill skaters recorded goals in the win, as sophomore Alexis Petford, senior Paige Whaley, and sophomore Maddison Achtyl each netted their team-leading second goal of the young season.
• Sophomore Lucie Turcotte scored her first goal of the 2023-24 season for the Skyhawks, the eighth of her career.
• Petford also assisted on her team-leading fifth goal of the season, tallying her second multi-point game of the season.
• After scoring a goal last night, sophomore Gracie Sacca notched another point with her team-leading fifth assist in the win.
• Sophomore Sydney Russell recorded her second assist of the year.
• Lily Geist, Josie Mendeszoon, and Makenna Slocum scored their first points of the season with an assist from each of them.
• Whaley also notched a multi-point performance as she added her third assist and her second multi-point game of the season.

How it Happened

• Stonehill opened the scoring at the 16:13 mark of the first period when a loose puck sent into the Skyhawk attacking zone by Russell and Slocum bounced around in front of the net where Turcotte was able to redirect it towards the net and past the Saint Anselm goaltender.
• After a scoreless second period, Stonehill added to their 1-0 lead just 21 seconds into the third when a wrist shot from Petford ricocheted off the Hawks goalie and into the waiting stick of Whaley who wristed it to the back of the net on the rebound.
• At 6:58 in the third, Whaley sent a saucer pass up the ice to Sacca who was streaking down the ice towards the Saint Anselm net when Sacca sent the puck across the slot to Petford for a wrist shot that snuck into the goal to give the Skyhawks a 3-0 lead.
• Just a little over halfway through the third period, Stonehill netted their fourth and final goal as Achtyl found a pass from Mendeszoon in front of the net and redirected the puck on net and past the Hawks goalie.

Noteworthy

• Stonehill is now 2-5 in the all-time series against Saint Anselm and the Skyhawks improved to 1-2 all-time when taking on the Hawks at Bridgewater Ice Arena.
• Stonehill outshot Saint Anselm 30-26 while the Hawks won the faceoff battle 31-30.
• The Skyhawks went 0-4 on the power play while the Hawks went 0-4.
