NEWARK, N.J. (October 25, 2023) - Stonehill volleyball dropped its final non-conference match of the season to NJIT in straight sets (21-25, 20-25, 19-25) on Wednesday night at the NJIT Wellness & Events Center in Newark, N.J.

Highlights
- First-year middle blocker and outside hitter Maggie Seymour led Stonehill with career highs across the board. Tallying seven kills, two aces, four blocks, and three digs against NJIT.
- Senior Lauren McCloskey and sophomore Mia Berardino added six kills apiece during the match for the Skyhawks.
- Senior Skylar Hanley led the team with nine digs, while junior Isabella Arcidiacono and first-year student Maddie Schamaun added six of their own.
- First-year setter Amaya Parnell paced the Skyhawks, assisting on nine points for Stonehill.
How It Happened
SET 1 | NJIT came out of the gates strong jumping out to an early 11-2 advantage midway through the first set. Stonehill would rally back, going on a 5-1 run to bring the score within five points at 12-7. However, both sides would trade points back-and-forth throughout the remainder of the opening set as the Highlanders eventually held off the Skyhawks, 25-21.
SET 2 | The second set start very similar to how the first set ended, with both sides not being able to pull away from one another on the scoreboard. The two teams played to a 4-4 tie to start the second set, however, NJIT regained its momentum from early in the match, going on a 7-0 run to extend its lead to 12-5. After trading points once again, Stonehill would battle back going on an extended 5-0 run of its own to cut the deficit to 22-17. However, the Highlanders would pull away and take the second set by a final score of 25-20.
SET 3 | The Skyhawks took their first lead of the match early in the third set at 3-2 after back-to-back service errors by the Highlanders. The final set proved to be a back-and-forth battle once again as both sides would play to a 7-7 tie partway through the third set. NJIT started to pull away, jumping out to a 19-14 lead, however, Stonehill would keep the set within striking distance throughout. The Highlanders eventually finished off the three-set sweep, taking down the Skyhawks by a final match score of 25-21, 25-20, 25-19.
