WORCESTER, Mass. (October 27, 2023) – The Stonehill College women's ice hockey team rolled to a 5-1 victory over New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) opponent Assumption University Friday night.
Highlights
- Senior Paige Whaley netted a pair of goals for the first time in her career to propel the Skyhawks to the 5-1 victory.
- Sophomore duo of Kathryn Karo and Maeve Carey each scored their first goals of the season.
- First-year student Peyton Wise lit the lamp for the first time of her young career against the Greyhounds in the first period.
- First-year defender Pusle Dyring-Andersen led the Skyhawks playmakers dishing out two assists on the night.
- Junior goaltender Hanna Zukow stopped 25 shots in between the pipes for Stonehill to earn their third win of the season in goal.
- First-year forward Alexa Hanrahan scored the lone goal for Assumption.

- Stonehill opened the scoring at the 6:17 mark of the opening frame after Wise hopped on a loose puck in front of the Assumption net for her first career goal.
- The Skyhawks would double their advantage on the power play just under 10 minutes into the contest after Whaley retrieved a rebound and placed a backhand shot into the back of the net for her first goal of the game.
- However, Assumption would respond less than 40 seconds later, as Hanrahan would cut the deficit in half after scoring a goal off assists from first-year pairing Rachel Agerter and Jenna Chaplain.
- Coming out of the first intermission Stonehill would continue to apply consistent offensive pressure, outshooting the Greyhounds 9-2 through the first 10 minutes of the second period.
- At the 10:25 mark, however, Stonehill would score its third goal of the game after Karo converted on cross ice pass from Lucie Turcotte for her first goal of the season.
- In the waning seconds of the middle frame, Whaley would net her second goal of the contest on a deflection in front of the Greyhounds goal off a blue line shot from Dyring-Andersen.
- Stonehill capped off its scoring after Carey found the back of the net for her first goal of the season at the 18:08 mark of the third and final period to seal the 5-1 victory over Assumption.

- Whaley now leads the team with four goals on the season.
- Senior captain Grace Parker, sophomore trio Alexis Petford, Gracie Sacca, Turcotte, and Wise each recorded an assist on the night.
- Stonehill outshot Assumption 28-26, while the Greyhounds held a slight 36-32 advantage inside the faceoff circle.
- The Skyhawks have scored at least one power play goal in five of the team's first nine contests.
