Women's Soccer Drops 3-1 Decision at Vermont

Box Score
Durham tallied four saves in net for the Skyhawks in her second start of the season.

BURLINGTON, Vt. (September 10, 2023) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team dropped a tough 3-1 decision on the road this afternoon to the University of Vermont.

Highlights

  • Senior Emmy Dumaresq scored her first goal of the season and third of her career.

  • Senior goalkeeper Leanne Durham registered four saves in going the full 90 minutes in goal for the Skyhawks.

  • Junior Kate Bossert scored two of the Catamounts three goals on the afternoon, while junior Tessa Weiss found the back of the net for the first time in her career.

  • Junior duo Bailey Ayer and Maddy Cronin each dished out assists for Vermont.

  • Sophomore netminder Kylee Carafoli finished with six saves in her fourth start of the season in goal for the Catamounts.

How it Happened

  • Stonehill wasted little time jumping out to an early 1-0 lead after Dumaresq's free kick from just outside the 18-yard box found the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

  • However, Vermont would respond in the 12th minute of the contest, tying the game up at one apiece on a goal from Bossert.

  • Sophomore Hannah Anselmo nearly gave the Skyhawks back the lead with shots on goal from inside the box at the 18- and 33-minute marks of the opening half.

  • Bossert would give the Catamounts their first lead of the contest with her second goal of the game at the 53:24-minute mark of the second half.

  • Vermont would cap off the scoring in the 65th minute with Weiss's first career goal.

  • Despite Dumaresq rocketing one final shot on net in the final minute of the game, the Catamounts advantage grew too much for the Skyhawks to overcome, eventually falling by a final score of 3-1.
