How it Happened
Seven minutes into the conference contest, Stonehill was granted a free kick outside the 18-yard box after Anselmo drew a yellow card from senior
Karoline Riisnaes. However, despite the close-range free kick, the Cougars' formed wall deflected the Anselmo shot out of play and away from the net to keep the game scoreless early.
At the 16:10 mark, Chicago State nearly opened the scoring when first-year student
Maya Dixon booted a right-footed shot barely over the top of the Skyhawks crossbar.
In the 28th minute, Anselmo would rifle a right-footed shot on net, forcing Arballo to make an incredible sprawling save to push the shot off the crossbar. However, the rebound would bounce back into the field of play, where Cassidy would await and tap a shot into the back of the net for her second goal of the year to give the Skyhawks a one-goal lead heading into the halftime break.
Less than two minutes into the second half of action, a redirected shot off Schultz's left foot would trickle just wide of the Cougars net, nearly doubling the Stonehill advantage early in the final 45 minutes of regulation.
Schultz would eventually find the back of the net for her second goal of the season in the 60th minute. The senior forward out of Litchfield, New Hampshire, retrieved a low cross from Anselmo and chipped a shot over the leg of Arballo in goal to double the Skyhawks lead on the scoreboard.
Despite a pair of late scoring chances from the Chicago State offensive attack, Sougaris and the Skyhawks' back line would hold tough on their defensive end of the pitch to preserve the 2-0 shutout victory.
