How It Happened
Minnesota-Duluth started the first period off strong, edging Stonehill out on the shot chart by a narrow 5-2 margin over the first three minutes of play. At the 5:46 mark, however, the Bulldogs would break through and get a puck past Androlewicz off the stick of Arnott, putting Minnesota-Duluth up by one early in the first. The Bulldogs would double their advantage at the 15:48 mark of the opening frame when James lit the lamp on his first of two goals on the night.
Coming out of the first intermission, Stonehill would cut into its two-goal deficit within the opening five minutes of the second period when Ireland and Heath connected on a two-on-one break into the offensive zone. Heath received a cross-ice pass from Ireland and sent a wrist shot over Gajan's glove for his first goal of the season.
However, less than three minutes later, Minnesota-Duluth would regain its two-goal lead when Menghini netted his first of the year off assists by freshman
Harper Bentz and sophomore
Braden Fischer. Midway through the second period, Minnesota-Duluth jumped out to a 4-1 lead when James found the back of the net on the power play for his second goal of the night.
Minnesota-Duluth continued to apply offensive zone pressure in the third period, outshooting the Skyhawks 20-4 over the final 20 minutes of regulation while also adding its fifth goal of the contest off the stick of Shaugabay on the power play for his team-leading fourth goal of the season. Despite the effort late in the frame, registering five shot attempts in the last three minutes of play, the Bulldogs lead proved too much to overcome as Stonehill fell by a final score of 5-1.
