EASTON, Mass. (November 16, 2024) – The Stonehill College volleyball team celebrated its senior day as the Skyhawks capped off their 2024 season, falling to FDU in four sets, 3-1, in a Northeast Conference match at Merkert Gym Saturday afternoon.

Isabella Arcidiacono (Wilbraham, Mass.), Lindsey Peirson (Bedford, N.H.), Bianca Fitch (Hopedale, Mass.), Leah Michalowski (Holden, Mass.), and Emma Graves (Vestal, N.Y.) before Saturday's match for their contributions to the program over these past four seasons.
FDU 3, Stonehill 1 (25-17, 19-25, 20-25, 19-25)
Highlights
- Peirson was Skyhawks' top-scorer, notching a team-high 10.5 points on seven kills, three block assists, and two service aces with a .412 hit percentage.
- Freshman Paloma Gonzalez Jaramillo (Wylie, Texas) led Stonehill with nine kills on a .438 hit percentage.
- Graves tacked on nine kills with three block assists and four digs, scoring 8.5 points.
- Sophomores Abby Farrell (Reading, Mass.) and Georgia Murphy (Plano, Texas) each totaled nine points as Farrell had six kills on a team-high .625 hit percentage with four block assists and a solo block. Murphy led the Skyhawks with three service aces and also had six kills.
- Arcidiacono had a career-day setting for the Skyhawks, tallying 18 assists and a team-high nine digs, both career-highs.
- Sophomore Amaya Parnell (Portland, Ore.) led Stonehill with 19 assists.
- FDU's Avery Bain was the match's top-scorer for the second day in a row, tallying 16 kills on a .355 attack percentage.
SET 1 | FDU scored the first three points of the match, but Stonehill's offense picked up, sparking an 11-3 run for the Skyhawks as Peirson and Farrell each had two kills. Stonehill would go on another big run, outscoring FDU 8-1 through the middle part of the first set, building a 21-10 lead. The Knights tried to rally, putting together five consecutive scores, but Stonehill closed out the first set, winning 25-17. Peirson scored four points in the opening set, notching two kills and two aces as Stonehill teamed up for a .333 attack percentage to open the match.
SET 2 | The Skyhawks carried its momentum into the early stages of the second set, jumping out to a 5-2 lead, but the Knights responded, scoring the next five to take a two-point advantage, 7-5. Stonehill would tie it up, 7-7, but FDU led the rest of the way in the second set, tying the match 1-1 with a 25-19 set win. Bain led the Knights with six kills in the second set while Gonzalez Jaramillo tallied three.
SET 3 | The third set was far more back-and-forth than the first two, with seven ties and five lead changes overall. As the score see-sawed, the Skyhawks held a minimal 13-12 lead until the Knights scored three straight to regain a lead they wouldn't give up for the remainder of the set. FDU ended the third frame on a 13-7 run, winning the set, 25-20. Murphy had a stellar third set for the Skyhawks, recording six kills with just two errors.
SET 4 | Aside from a tie score at 2-2, the Knights led for the entirety of the fourth set as FDU hit the ball well, recording a .438 hitting percentage, led by
Eleonora Tosi, who had seven kills in the fourth set alone. FDU won the set, 25-19, closing out the match in four sets.
