How It Happened
Stonehill and Lindenwood played to an even matchup through the first 10 minutes of play in the opening frame, with the Lions narrowly edging the Skyhawks out on the shot chart, 6-4. Midway through the first period, O'Brien and junior captain
Frank Ireland sent a trio of shots on net. However, Bartoszkiewicz and junior
Joe Prouty would block away the Skyhawk's shots to keep the game scoreless in the first.
Lindenwood would break the scoreless tie at the 17:02 mark of the opening frame when Mortenson lit the lamp on his second goal of the season after grabbing a rebound off a shot from Yakesh and sending a one-timer into the back of the net.
Coming out of the first intermission, Stonehill would look to go on the attack and level the game at one aside. Throughout the opening five minutes of the second period, the two sides would trade shot attempts until the Skyhawks gained offensive momentum, outshooting the Lions 11-3 by the end of the middle period. Despite outshooting Lindenwood in the second, Stonehill would head into the third and final frame of regulation trailing by the narrowest of margins, 1-0.
The Lions came out of the gates strong in the third period, tallying nine shot attempts on a two-minute power-play opportunity within the opening three minutes of the final frame. Following the early Lindenwood skater advantage, Stonehill would gain its first power-play opportunity of the game. Despite falling short on the five-on-four advantage, the Skyhawks would knot the game up at one aside at the 10:01 mark of the period when O'Brien sent a sharp angle shot inside the post and into the back of the net for his second goal of the season.
After O'Brien leveled the game at one aside, a pair of Lion turnovers at the 16:59 and 18:16 marks of the third period resulted in two breakaways for Galante and Melady, respectively. Galante scored his eighth of the year to give the Skyhawks the first lead of the weekend at 2-1 before Melady capped off the scoring and sealed the 3-1 comeback victory with his first collegiate goal.
