SOUTH BEND, Ind. (November 6, 2024) – The Stonehill College men's basketball team opened its road slate at the Purcell Pavilion, falling to Notre Dame 89-60 Wednesday night.
LEADERS
- Sophomore Todd Brogna (Southborough, Mass.) led Stonehill with 16 points, shooting 8-9 from the free throw line while making both of his three-point attempts.
- Sophomore Louie Semona (Cincinnati, Ohio) and junior Ethan Meuser (Shavertown, Pa.) each scored 11 points while Meuser also had three steals and two blocks.
- Junior Chas Stinson (Charlotte, N.C.) led Stonehill with a career-high four blocks, and graduate student Amir Nesbitt (Newport News, Va.) matched his career-high of four steals.
- Notre Dame's backcourt duo of Markus Burton and Braeden Shrewsberry led all scorers with 18 points each.
FIRST HALF
- Stonehill scored the first bucket of the game as Meuser crashed the offensive glass, tipping in a miss to give the Skyhawks a 2-0 lead.
- A transition three from Semona off a Nesbitt steal tied the game at 10-10 as the Skyhawks opened the contest shooting 44% (4-9).
- The fighting Irish jumped out to a 13-point lead, 29-16, outscoring Stonehill 19-6 over the next six minutes.
- The Skyhawks responded, knocking down three consecutive three-pointers to make it a single-digit game, 33-25, with just over five minutes to play in the half.
- Notre Dame closed out the first half strong, finishing on a 13-4 run to take a 17-point lead into the break, 46-29.
SECOND HALF
- Stonehill made back-to-back threes to start the second half, but the Fighting Irish continued to build on their lead, making four straight shots to go up by 24, 61-37, with 15 minutes to go in the game.
- A three-pointer from last year's ACC Rookie of the Year, Markus Burton, gave Notre Dame its largest lead of the game, 77-49, with seven minutes left on the clock.
- Stonehill fought hard down the stretch, but the Fighting Irish would win the game 89-60, shooting the ball at a 50.8% (31-61) clip from the field.
NOTEWORTHY
- Meuser tallied a career-high 11 points after being held scoreless in Monday night's opener against Framingham State. He knocked down a career-high three shots from long range and had a career-high three steals.
- Stinson doubled his career high, blocking four shots.
- This was Stonehill's first meeting as a Division I opponent with Notre Dame, playing two exhibitions against the Fighting Irish, one in 2011, and the other in 2008.
- Notre Dame won the rebounding battle 50-23 and shot the ball 47.8% (11-23) from deep.

- Stonehill men's basketball plays its second of a five-game road, traveling to the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, R.I. to take on the Friars at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9.
