PROVIDENCE, R.I. (December 5, 2024) – Brown University closed the third quarter with a 16-2 run after Stonehill College pulled to within nine to secure a 78-45 victory in a non-conference women's basketball matchup at the Pizzitola Sports Center tonight.
Junior
Grace Arnolie and sophomore
Olivia Young combined for 31 points to lead four from Brown in double-figures in the win. Arnolie scored a team-high 16 points and dished five assists with three steals and two rebounds for the Bears, while Young made 5-of-7 three-pointers for 15 points, four rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots.
Freshman
Aima Ofunrein contributed 13 points and nine rebounds off the bench, while senior
Gianna Aiello rounded out the Bears in double-figures with 12 points, nine boards (five offensive), three assists and two blocked shots. Brown took advantage of Stonehill's 19 turnovers to post a 19-6 scoring edge in points off and held the Skyhawks to 1-of-15 shooting from three-point range.
Postgrad
Kylie Swider paced Stonehill with a game-high matching 16 points, including 14 in the first half, on 7-of-12 shooting, with nine rebounds and two blocked shots. Sophomore
Brooke Paquette scored all 12 of her points in the second half to spark the Skyhawks comeback in the third quarter, adding six assists and three rebounds. Senior
Maureen Stapleton chipped in with seven boards, four assists, four points and a block.

Brown closed the first quarter with a 23-4 run to open a 21-point lead (29-8) after ten minutes of play, led by Young's nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from three, while Ofunrein added six points and five boards in the opening frame. Stonehill emerged from an opening quarter in which it made just 3-of-13 shots to connect at 61.5% (8-of-13) in the second frame, while the Bears cooled from 50% (10-20) shooting in the opening quarter, including 3-for-6 from deep, to shoot 3-for-13 themselves in the second, including 1-of-5 from deep, as the Skyhawks chipped away at the lead.
Stonehill scored ten-straight points, including eight by Swider, to close its deficit to 13 (35-22) after a Swider basket with 1:35 to play in the half. Brown took a 14-point cushion (38-24) into halftime, but Stonehill emerged with seven of the first nine points in the third quarter, all from Paquette, to close to within nine (40-31) four minutes in.
Brown emerged from a timeout with a 16-2 run to close the third, featuring five different scorers, but Young buried a pair of three-pointers to close the quarter and send the Bears into the fourth with a 23-point lead (56-33) it would not relinquish the rest of the way.

- Paquette reached double-figures for the fourth straight game and the sixth time this season overall, marking 13 double-figure games for her career.
- Swider reached double-figures for the third-straight game and the fifth time in seven games this year, leading the Skyhawks in rebounding for the sixth time.
- Junior Chelsea Graiver made her first career start for Stonehill.
- Freshman Sydney McLaughlin's first career points on a three-pointer in the fourth quarter avoided Stonehill's first game in eight years without a three. The Skyhawks last went without a triple in a 71-55 win over Saint Michael's College in Easton, Massachusetts, on February 21, 2017, missing their three from beyond the arc in that game.
- Stonehill and Brown were meeting for the second time in the program's history – but first since a 69-58 Stonehill win here in Providence in 1981.
