Box Score EASTON, Mass. (February 8, 2024) – Stonehill men's basketball dropped a Northeast Conference matchup at Merkert Gym Thursday night, falling to Le Moyne, 88-57 as the two teams met for the first time at the Division I level.
LEADERS
- Freshmen Louie Semona (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Austin Abrams (Ellicott City, Md.) each scored nine points to lead Stonehill. Semona also led the Skyhawks with six boards and four assists.
- Le Moyne was led by grad student Kaiyem Cleary who netted 16 points as four Dolphins scored in double-figures in a balanced scoring attack.
FIRST HALF
- Le Moyne started the game on a 14-4 run, hitting on six of its first eight shot attempts to build a double-digit lead early.
- The Dolphin lead would grow to as much as 13, 28-15 before the Skyhawks got five points from senior Jackson Benigni (East Hampton, Conn.) and a layup from freshman Todd Brogna (Southborough, Mass.), making it a single-digit game, 30-22.
- Over the final 6:31 of the first half, Le Moyne would go on an 18-0 run, building a 48-22 lead going into the break.
SECOND HALF
- The Dolphins began the second half on an 8-2 run to build a 56-24 lead, their largest of the game up to that point.
- Stonehill would get as close as 23 points, 59-36, but Le Moyne went on another big run, outscoring the Skyhawks 22-2, securing a 43-point lead, its largest of the game, with 6:28 left to play.
- Le Moyne would win the game 88-57 as Stonehill finished strong, scoring the final 10 points of the game.
NOTEWORTHY
- Stonehill falls to 18-24 all-time against Le Moyne, dropping the first Division I matchup between the two programs after the first 41 games were as Division II foes as members of the Northeast-10 conference.
- Abrams notched a career-high nine points and three boards in just 12 minutes of action.
- Semona matched a career-high six rebounds while setting a new career-best after dishing out four assists.
- Senior Will Rywolt (Barrington, R.I.) knocked down his third career three-pointer and first of the season, scoring a season-high three points.
