ANCHORAGE, Alas. (March 2, 2024) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team fell on the road to Alaska Anchorage, 12-2, Saturday night. With the loss, the Skyhawks fall to 2-32 overall, while the Seawolves improve to 14-16-2 on the year.
Highlights
- Junior Henri Schreifels highlighted the Stonehill offense with a pair of goals on the night.
- Schreifels two-goal outing marks the first of his entire collegiate career.
- Sophomore Frank Ireland dished out his ninth assist of the season on Schreifels second period goal.
- Junior goaltender Gavin FitzPatrick posted 26 saves inside the crease for Stonehill.
- Junior Maximilion Helgeson finished with six points on the night off three goals and three assists, while senior Ben Almquist recorded his second consecutive hat trick.
- Junior Porter Schachle and freshman Gunnar VanDamme each added two goals and an assist each on the night for the Seawolves.
- Senior netminder Joey Lamoreaux picked up his fourth win of the season after stopping 16 of his 18 shots faced in between the pipes.
How it Happened
- UAA started the scoring right away as the Seawolves netted three goals in the opening 10 minutes of action off the sticks of Helgeson, Schachle, and senior Connor Marritt.
- Schreifels would respond for the Skyhawks at the 14:20 mark of the first period with his first goal of the night, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
- However, UAA would regain its early momentum to start the second period, tacking five goals on the board throughout the frame to take a commanding 8-1 lead with less than three minutes remaining in the middle period.
- Stonehill responded 40 seconds after Almquist's second-period hat trick marker as Schreifels lit the lamp on his eighth goal of the season off an assist from Ireland, bringing the score to 8-2 heading into the second intermission.
- In the final frame, the Seawolves tacked on four more goals off the sticks of VanDamme (3:30 & 11:12), Helgeson (7:52), and Schachle (19:02.1) to seal the 12-2 victory over Stonehill.
