EASTON, Mass. (September 10, 2024) – Stonehill College women's ice hockey head coach
Lee-J Mirasolo has announced the addition of
Aerin Frankel to her coaching staff for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
"We could not be more thrilled to have Aerin join our staff," said Mirasolo. "Her extensive resume, including being a standout at Northeastern University, and USA Hockey, in addition to earning the Patty Kazmaier Award, is a true testament to her athletic ability and knowledge of the game. The fact that she is still competing allows her to connect with the players on a unique level. The only thing more impressive than Aerin's bio is her character. We are so fortunate to have such a humble, thoughtful, and supportive person as part of our program."
Alongside Mirasolo and assistant coach
Kendall Wagner, Frankel, a native of New York, will make her NCAA Division I hockey coaching debut as a goaltending coach for the reigning New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) Champion Stonehill Skyhawks this season.
Frankel spent her entire collegiate career at Northeastern University, serving as the team's assistant captain for two seasons. Frankel was the Patty Kazmaier Award Recipient in 2021, an award given to the best player in NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey.
Additionally, Frankel was named to the Women's Hockey East All-Tournament Team five-times as well as earning Most Valuable Player for the WHEA Championship tournament three times. Overall, Frankel posted a career record in goal of 103-22-10 with 39 shutouts, a 1.31 goals against average, and a .949 career save percentage.
The two-time All-American and National Goaltender of the Year has also been a member of the USA Hockey Women's National Team since 2019. While competing as a member of USA Hockey, Frankel has played at the 2021 and 2022 Women's Hockey World Championships in Calgary, Alberta and Herning, Denmark as well as the 2023 IIHF Women's Ice Hockey World Championships where she was a member of the gold medal winning USA squad. In addition, Frankel was named the 2021 Bob Allen Women's Hockey Player of the Year.
During her playing career, Frankel has gained coaching and mentorship experience with the Westchester Skating Academy, Ironbound Tough Ice Hockey Program, and Cushing Academy. At Ironbound and Cushing, Frankel served as a goalie coach and team mentor conducting on-ice skill sessions and assisted in facilitating practices. She also helped players and families navigate the youth hockey experience and served as a role model as they pursue collegiate hockey endeavors and begin the college recruitment process.
Frankel graduated from Northeastern in 2021 with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and psychology as well as a minor in Spanish. She finished her master's degree at Northeastern in 2022, pursuing the Science of Organizational Leadership.
