Men's Tennis Comes Up Short Against Colgate

LAKEVILLE, Mass. (January 25, 2025) – The Stonehill College men's tennis team came up short in its 2025 calendar year debut, 4-3, against Colgate Saturday night at the Lakeville Athletic Club. With the loss, the Skyhawks dropped to 3-1 overall, while the Raiders improved to 1-0 on the season.

  • Senior Jacob Wilhelm Krefting and sophomore Jacob Borch-Nielsen each recorded double victories for the Skyhawks on the day.
  • Krefting, alongside junior Mark Kröll, notched their team-leading eighth doubles victory of the season before securing an individual win with a hard-fought three-set triumph at No. 3 singles.
  • Borch-Nielsen earned his fifth overall and third singles win at the No. 1 position, while also teaming up with first-year Nicolas Arredondo for a victory at No. 1 doubles, marking his third individual double win of the season.
  • Sophomore Jerome Falcon also posted a double win for the Raiders, while junior Aidan Lee, senior Josh Israel, and first-year Tim Viding each earned singles victories.
How It Happened
  • Borch-Nielsen and Arredondo secured their fifth win of the season as a doubles pairing on the first court, defeating senior Benito Vlassis and Israel with a 6-3 scoreline.
  • Wilhelm Krefting and Kröll extended their winning streak to four consecutive matches as a doubles team, clinching the doubles point for the Skyhawks with a 6-3 victory over junior Aidan Chung and Viding.
  • Sophomore Parker McGowan and Falcon accounted for Colgate's sole doubles win, overcoming the first-year duo of Javier Gutierrez and Guillermo Bennaton, 6-4.
  • Borch-Nielsen followed up his doubles victory with an impressive 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 1 singles position, defeating Vlassis.
  • Wilhelm Krefting battled senior Ben Graham to a three-set thriller, ultimately prevailing 4-6, 7-6, 10-7 at the No. 4 singles position, giving the Skyhawks a 3-2 lead in the overall match.
  • Despite Krefting's victory, the Raiders fought back with wins from Israel at No. 2, Lee at No. 3, and Viding at No. 5, setting the stage for a decisive No. 6 singles match.
  • Colgate clinched its first dual match victory of the season when Falcon triumphed over sophomore Alexis Chastang, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 6 singles match.
