Late Heroics from Achtyl Propel Women's Hockey to Overtime Victory Against Saint Anselm

BOSTON, Mass. (October 24, 2025) – The Stonehill College women's hockey team battled back and refused to quit, earning a hard-fought 4-3 overtime victory over NEWHA rival Saint Anselm College on Friday night at Warrior Ice Arena in Boston. With the win, the Skyhawks improve to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while the Hawks drop to 3-5 overall and 3-1 in league action.

Highlights
  • Maddi Achtyl recorded her second multi-goal game of the season, bringing her NEWHA-leading total to six goals.
  • Reagan Whynot and Seina Spadone each found the back of the net, marking Whynot's second and Spadone's first goals of the year. Spadone also added an assist for a two-point performance.
  • Payton Palsa, Peyton Wise, Sydney Russell, Lily Geist, and Lucie Turcotte each contributed assists in the victory.
  • Alexsa Caron earned her second win of the season in goal, stopping 32 of the 35 shots she faced.
  • Grace Littler and Hailey Tullo led the Hawks offensively, each registering multi-point performances.
  • Lucy DeCoteau and Eden Granley also found the back of the net for Saint Anselm.
  • Goaltender Kayla Czukoski recorded her fourth 40-plus save performance of the season, turning aside 41 shots against the Skyhawks.

How It Happened
Following a back-and-forth start to the conference matchup, Saint Anselm broke through first at the 18:21 mark of the opening frame when Granley capitalized on a scramble in front of the Stonehill net. The tally — her first collegiate goal — sent the Hawks into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead.

The Skyhawks came out strong to start the second period, drawing an early power-play opportunity and converting when a cross-ice feed from Geist found the stick of Whynot, who whistled a shot past Czukoski for her second goal of the season, evening the score at one.

Ten minutes later, the two teams traded goals just 31 seconds apart. DeCoteau put Saint Anselm back on top at 2-1 at 15:22, before Spadone answered quickly for Stonehill at 15:53 with her first goal of the year, sending the game into the second intermission knotted at two.

Saint Anselm wasted no time regaining the lead early in the third, as Littler buried her first of the season just 1:09 into the period to make it 3-2 Hawks. The Skyhawks continued to press for the equalizer throughout the final frame, generating sustained pressure in the offensive zone.

With just over 90 seconds remaining in regulation and the Stonehill net empty, Achtyl redirected a shot from Turcotte into the back of the cage, tying the game at 3-3 and forcing overtime.

Just 34 seconds into the extra frame, Achtyl drew a penalty shot and made the most of the opportunity, firing a shot past Czukoski for the game-winner — her sixth goal of the season and second overtime winner in the last three games.
