Men's Soccer Battles Le Moyne to a 0-0 Tie in a Defensive Battle

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After a brief break from conference play, the Stonehill men's soccer team returned to NEC action battling Le Moyne to a 0-0 tie on Sunday afternoon.

STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
  • Junior goalkeeper Kyle Tencza made his first start of season, registering four saves.
  • Seniors Shane Fonseca and Owen Burke each recorded three shots on net.
  • The Skyhawks outshot the Dolphins, 10-1 in the first half. They finished the day out shooting Le Moyne 19-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Skyhawks looked to strike first in the opening minutes, earning a corner kick in the 6th minute but Le Moyne goalkeeper Wyatt Dupell snagged it out of the air. Making his first start of the season junior Kyle Tencza was equally impressive at the other end of the field keeping the game scoreless, rejecting a pair of corner kicks by the Dolphins.

While the Skyhawk defense held firm, the Stonehill kept the pressure on the Dolphins offensively.  The Skyhawks outshot the Dolphins 10-1 in the first half but two teams carried the 0-0 game into the break.

Stonehill carried its offensive momentum into the second half. From the top of the box, senior Owen Burke fired a shot towards the left side post but the Dolphin goalkeeper came up with the diving save.

Down the stretch Tencza came up stoic with outstanding acrobatic saves in the final 20 minutes. Le Moyne's Cameron Stuart fired a shot towards net, but Tencza came up with a gigantic kick save. Minutes later, Tencza came up with his second acrobatic save of the day as the two teams battled to the tie to pick up a point in the standings.
