Skyhawks Close Regular Season with 3–1 Senior Day Victory Over Chicago State

EASTON, Mass. (November 2, 2025) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team closed out its regular season on a high note, earning a 3-1 victory over NEC opponent Chicago State Sunday afternoon at WB Mason Stadium. Prior to kickoff, the Skyhawks recognized their five seniors — Grace Robison, Hannah Anselmo, Olivia Sharkansky, Katie Carey, and Riley Gulick — along with their families during a pregame Senior Day ceremony.

With the win, Stonehill wrapped up the regular season with a 6-8-4 overall record and a 6-3-2 mark in NEC play, while the Cougars fell to 5-9-5 overall and 3-6-2 in conference action.

Highlights
  • Junior Kayla Cassidy recorded her second brace of the season, bringing her team total to six goals on the year.
  • Anselmo added to her NEC-leading tally, converting a second-half penalty kick for her 14th goal of the campaign.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Allie Sougaris earned her sixth win of the season, making one save in the victory.
  • For Chicago State, Renee Davis notched her third goal of the year, while Aviana Gutierrez registered seven saves in net.

How it Happened
Stonehill came out strong, peppering Chicago State with 12 shot attempts and four corner kicks throughout the opening half of play. In the early minutes, Sharkansky generated three quality scoring chances that narrowly missed the mark, coming just shy of netting her first goal of the season and giving the Skyhawks an early lead.

Throughout the first 45 minutes, Chicago State goalkeeper Aviana Gutierrez turned aside several dangerous bids from the Stonehill attack, including back-to-back attempts from Anselmo and Carey midway through the half.

Despite the game remaining scoreless late into the first frame, the Skyhawks broke through in dramatic fashion. Cassidy forced a turnover near midfield and sprinted past the Cougar defense, slotting home her first of two goals just before the halftime whistle to send Stonehill into the break with a 1-0 advantage.

After a back-and-forth start to the second half, a shot from Anselmo outside the box resulted in a handball call, setting up a Stonehill penalty kick at the 58:20 mark. The senior forward calmly stepped to the spot and buried her NEC-leading 14th goal of the season to double the Skyhawks' lead.

Chicago State answered in the 75th minute when Davis fired a long-range strike over the outstretched glove of Sougaris to pull the Cougars within one. However, Stonehill wasted little time regaining control, as Cassidy capitalized on another defensive turnover just over two minutes later, breaking free and finishing her second of the match to seal the 3-1 Senior Day victory for the Skyhawks.
