How It Happened
Stonehill quickly established dominance, applying relentless pressure in the offensive zone and outshooting Plymouth State 8-1 in the first five minutes. At 5:19, Melady found the back of the net with what would ultimately stand as the game-winning goal, assisted by classmate
Zach Aben. Just over eight minutes later, the Skyhawks doubled their lead when Lagerbäck and Grainda connected on their first of two goals together in the contest.
Following Grainda's tally at the 13:17 mark of the opening period, Plymouth State settled in, attempting to narrow the gap in the final minutes of the frame. Despite being outshot 10-5 in the closing moments, Androlewicz and the Stonehill defense stood strong, fending off the Panther's efforts and heading into the break with a 2-0 lead.
The Skyhawks continued their offensive onslaught in the second period. Just 34 seconds into the frame, sophomore
Charlie Banquier fired a shot top shelf, assisted by sophomore
Dominick Campione, extending Stonehill's lead to three. The Skyhawks maintained relentless pressure, outshooting Plymouth State 26-10 in the period, and added four more goals to take a commanding 7-0 advantage into the third.
Grainda netted his second of the night at 6:30, burying a rebound in front of the net. Melady, freshman
Joel Lehtinen, and sophomore
Anthony Galante followed with goals at 14:35, 18:42, and 19:10, respectively, putting Stonehill firmly in control.
In the third period, Lagerbäck, Carlstrom, Ireland, and freshman
Zach Nicolas each contributed to the scoring effort, wrapping up an emphatic 11-0 victory for the Skyhawks over Plymouth State University.
