Sullivan Shines as Softball Splits Doubleheader at Ohio University

ATHENS, Ohio (March 13, 2025) – Sophomore Harper Sullivan (Glendale, Ariz.) drove in three runs and pitched a complete game to lead the Stonehill College softball team to a win in the nightcap of a doubleheader against Ohio University at the Ohio Softball Field Thursday afternoon. The Bobcats won the first game in five innings, 9-1, before the Skyhawks came out on top, 4-3, in the second game.

GAME 1 - Ohio 9 (17-6, 0-0 MAC), Stonehill 1 (5-8, 0-0 NEC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the first opened the scoring for the Bobcats as two runners came across in the inning. After notching singles in the bottom of the third, Ohio built on its lead with two more runs coming in on an infield error.

In total, the Bobcats recorded six runs in the bottom of the third capped off by a bases loaded double to give Ohio an 8-0 lead. Junior Jessica Brill (Natick, Mass.) singled up the middle to bring in freshman Melanie Snyder (Howard Beach, N.Y.) who led off the fourth inning with a single as the Skyhawks made the score 8-1.

The Bobcats finished the game in the bottom of the fifth when their ninth run came home on an error at first base, securing the 9-1 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Brill recorded her third RBI of the season, going 1-1 after pinch hitting in the fourth.
  • Snyder had the only other hit for the Skyhawks, going 1-1 with a run scored as she now has a hit in six of the past seven games.
  • Junior Lauren Donovan (Marblehead, Mass.) pitched 2.2 IP, allowing five hits, seven runs (two earned) as she falls to 1-1 on the year. Sophomore Alexa Hospodar (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) pitched the final two innings of the game, giving up two hits and two runs (zero earned).

GAME 2 - Stonehill 4 (6-8, 0-0 NEC), Ohio 3 (17-7, 0-0 MAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Junior Natalie Bottiglieri (Massapequa, N.Y.) led off the game with a single and advanced to third on a wild pitch before ground out from Sullivan brought her home to give Stonehill a 1-0 lead.

The Bobcats responded in the bottom half of the first, plating the tying run with an RBI single to left. Both teams went scoreless in the second inning but Sullivan ripped an RBI double to the left field fence with sophomore Piper Hofmann (Windermere, Fla.) and Bottiglieri coming in to score as the Skyhawks regained the lead, 3-1, in the top of the third.

After going down 1-2-3 in the third inning, the Bobcats added a run in the fourth inning to cut their deficit in half, 3-2. Hofmann drove in an insurance run in the top of the fifth as she doubled through the left side to drive in Bottiglieri.

Ohio led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple and followed it up with a sacrifice fly to make the score 4-3 but Sullivan forced a pop fly and a fly out to finish off the Bobcats, throwing a complete game in the win.
