#5 Skyhawks Drop NEC Playoff Debut at #4 FDU, 71-56

Skyhawks make postseason debut at DI level, Brogna records fifth career double-double, but Brown’s 23-point, 6-assist performance too much

HACKENSACK, N.J. (March 5, 2025) – The No. 5 seeded Stonehill men's basketball team (15-17, 7-9 NEC) fell in the quarterfinal round of the Northeast Conference Championships against No. 4 FDU (13-19, 8-8 NEC), 71-56, in the Skyhawks' first postseason appearance at the Division I level at the Bogota Savings Bank Center.

LEADERS
  • Sophomore Louie Semona (Cincinnati, Ohio) led Stonehill in scoring with 15 points and two steals while classmate Todd Brogna (Southborough, Mass.) recorded his fifth career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds on a 5-7 shooting performance.
  • Junior Ethan Meuser (Shavertown, Pa.) knocked down three three-pointers en route to nine points, five rebounds, two blocks, and a steal.
  • FDU's Terrence Brown led all scorers in Wednesday night's game, tallying 23 points, six assists, five rebounds, two steals, and one block.
FIRST HALF
  • The first half began as back-and-forth as it gets with six lead changes as the teams were separated by just one point, 18-17, as FDU led with 6:21 on the clock. Terrence Brown scored eight of the Knights' first 18 points.
  • A three-pointer from Jameel Morris, another two buckets from Brown, and a layup from Dylan Jones gave FDU its largest lead of the half, 28-20, with under two minutes to go.
  • The Knights ended the half on a 9-0 run as the Skyhawks went scoreless over the final 4:35 of the first, giving FDU a 30-20 lead at the break.
  • Brown went 6-12 from the field, leading the Knights with 13 points while Koffi was 3-6 with seven points to lead Stonehill.
SECOND HALF
  • Semona scored the first bucket of the second half, sparking a 20-13 run to start the final 20 minutes of action for the Skyhawks. Brogna scored six points during the Stonehill run that pulled the team back within single digits, 45-40.
  • Back-to-back threes from Meuser pulled Stonehill back within one possession, 45-43, as the Skyhawks defense forced the Knights into seven consecutive misses.
  • After a Brown three-pointer ended the Skyhawks' run, Nesbitt hit a turnaround jumper in the paint to start another scoring outburst for the Skyhawks as they made three straight shots to stay within one possession, 52-49.
  • Brown picked off a pass and threw down a dunk on the other end and then followed it up with a three-point play to put FDU up 60-51 with under four minutes to play.
  • The Knights led the rest of the way to secure the NEC quarterfinals round win, 71-56, knocking the Skyhawks out of the single elimination tournament.
NOTEWORTHY
  • Stonehill falls to 1-6 against FDU at the division I level and 4-7 all-time in a series that dates back to 1965 as the Skyhawks have dropped five straight games against the Knights.
  • This was Stonehill men's basketball's debut in the Northeast Conference Championship tournament as the Skyhawks missed the playoffs last season and were ineligible in 2022-23.
  • The Skyhawks outrebounded the Knights 35-32, including 12-5 on the offensive glass.
  • Brogna recorded his fifth double-double of the season and corralled at least six rebounds in 14 of the final 16 games, finishing the year as the team's leading rebounder at 6.8 per game.
  • Semona scored in double figures for the 21st time this season, tied with Brogna for a team-best mark as he finishes the season as the team's leading scorer at 13.2 points per game.
UP NEXT
  • Stonehill men's basketball team (15-17, 7-9 NEC) concluded its 2024-25 season, improving by 11 wins from last year's 4-27 record. The 2025-26 season will mark the fourth season for the Skyhawks at the Division I level as a member of the NEC.
