Bellarmine got on the board in the third inning with a trio of singles, but a 5-3-2 double play limited the damage to just one run for the Knights as Stonehill held onto a 2-1 lead.

GAME 2 – Evansville 5 (11-9, 0-0 MVC), Stonehill 2 (5-4, 0-0 NEC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Purple Aces got on the board in the first inning after a pair of wild pitches gave Evansville a 1-0 lead. In the top of the third, the Purple Aces used a string of three straight singles to add on another run, followed by a sacrifice fly, and another base knock as Evansville built a 4-0 advantage.
Senior
Shannon Conte (Amesbury, Mass.) lined a single up the middle with two outs in the bottom of the third inning to drive home sophomore
Harper Sullivan (Glendale, Ariz.) as the Skyhawks trimmed their deficit to three, 4-1.
Evansville responded in the next half inning with an RBI single to center field and had runners on second and third with two outs aiming to do more damage, but freshman
Amelia Styskal-Ward (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) got out of the jam to limit the Purple Aces to one run.
Stonehill added a run in the fifth inning but it was a pitching duel from that point on as the two teams were held scoreless for the remainder of the game. Evansville escaped with the 5-2 win as the Skyhawks threatened in the bottom of the seventh with runners on second and third and the tying run at the plate with one out, but the Purple Aces forced back-to-back line outs to halt the rally.
