STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (April 13, 2025) – The Stonehill College softball team fell in a pair of Northeast Conference matchups at Wagner on Sunday, falling in the first game 10-0, before dropping the second game 5-1, at the Wagner Softball Field.
GAME 1 – Wagner 10 (12-20, 7-6 NEC), Stonehill 0 (10-23, 2-8 NEC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening game was all Wagner, as the Seahawks won the game in five innings, recording 10 runs and 10 hits while holding Stonehill scoreless with three base hits.
Wagner scored in the opening frame before two home runs in the next two innings catapulted the Seahawks to a five-run lead.
Wagner tacked on five more runs in the fourth to put the game out of reach, securing the 10-0 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Senior Isabella Therrien (Auburn, Mass.) had her six-game hit streak come to an end but extended her on-base streak to seven games with a walk.
- Freshman Grace Conaway (St. Paul Park, Minn.) tallied one of the three Skyhawk hits, extending her hit streak to seven games.
- Redshirt junior May Dawes (Beacon Falls, Conn.) also recorded a hit and has a base knock in five of the past seven games.
- Sophomore Harper Sullivan (Glendale, Ariz.) fell to 4-3 in the circle, allowing six hits and five runs in 2.2 innings pitched.
GAME 2 – Wagner 5 (13-20, 8-6 NEC), Stonehill 1 (10-24, 2-9 NEC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Wagner scored in the first inning with an RBI single to right field, adding a second run in the bottom half of the second with an RBI single up the middle. The Skyhawks escaped a jam with runners on the corners to escape the second inning trailing 2-0.
Stonehill cut the Seahawks lead in half in the top of the third after freshman
Melanie Snyder (Howard Beach, N.Y.) led off the inning with a double before eventually scoring on an RBI single to right field from Sullivan.
Wagner answered in the bottom of the third, adding two more runs on three base hits including an RBI double.
Stonehill managed one baserunner for the remainder of the game while the Seahawks put one more insurance run on the board to sweep the doubleheader, 5-1.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Freshman Amelia Styskal-Ward (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) made the second start of her career in the circle, falling to 0-2 for the Skyhawks as she went four innings, allowing ten hits and five runs while striking out a career-high three batters.
- Junior Lauren Donovan (Marblehead, Mass.) had a solid two innings out of the bullpen, throwing two innings, holding Wagner hitless with two walks and a strikeout.
- Snyder recorded her fourth double of the season and has a hit in seven of the last eight games she's played in.
- Sullivan drove in her team-leading 19th RBI of the season.
- Dawes had another base hit and has knocked a hit in three straight games and six of the last eight.
