How it Happened
After Murphy and Coutu propelled the Skyhawks to an early 3-1 lead over Delaware State, the Hornets responded by trimming the deficit to one with 6:57 remaining in the opening frame. However, that would be as close as Delaware State would come for the remainder of the regular season finale. Three goals — from Coutu, D'Agostino, and Flaherty, respectively — extended Stonehill's advantage to 6-3 heading into the second quarter.
The Skyhawks came out firing to start the second, scoring seven consecutive goals, including six within the first five minutes of play. Delaware State's
Hannah McMasters momentarily halted the surge with a goal, but Stonehill quickly regained momentum, netting two more to close the half with a commanding 15-4 lead.
Driving Stonehill's nine-goal second quarter were two goals apiece from Coutu, Hanifin, and Flaherty, along with individual tallies from D'Agostino, Koch, and junior
Emily LaPia.
Following the halftime break, the Skyhawks continued to dominate, adding nine unanswered goals across the third and fourth quarters. D'Agostino secured her first hat trick of the season with the opening goal of the third, while Flaherty and Murphy each contributed two additional points to cap off strong performances.
First-year students Koch,
Neave Bowman, Maia Parker, and
Emma Van Allen, along with junior
Caroline Leone also found the back of the net in the second half, helping to complete Stonehill's dominant 24-5 victory over Delaware State.
