WORCESTER, Mass. (Sept. 12, 2025) – The Stonehill field hockey team mustered a late comeback against Holy Cross but ultimately dropped a 3-2 contest Friday evening at Hart Turf Field. The Skyhawks move to 0-5, while the Crusaders stand at 2-3 on the season.
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
- Freshman goalkeeper Isabelle Morton made a career-high eight saves for Stonehill against Holy Cross.
- Junior Karleigh Mirabile tallied the sixth goal of her career in the second quarter.
- Sophomore Siena De Roeck scored the first goal of her career in the fourth.
- Senior Makayla Strickulis posted the first two-assist game of her career.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Following a scoreless first quarter, the Skyhawks took a 1-0 lead with a buzzer beater by Mirabile off a pass by Strickulis as time expired in the second stanza.
In the third, the Crusaders answered with scores by Maguire Sturgis and Martina di Gregorio Giralt at 35:48 and 38:22, respectively, as Holy Cross led, 2-1, entering the final frame.
After the Crusaders extended its advantage to 3-1 off a goal by Kendall Brady at 53:22, De Roeck notched a goal off a corner to pull the Skyhawks back within one score, 3-2, at 3:30 remaining in the contest. Strickulis also assisted on the second Stonehill goal.
Both teams fired 11 shots on goal, and each squad earned nine corners a piece.

Stonehill (0-5, 0-0 NEC) will visit Rider (1-3, 0-0 NEC) for its conference opener on Friday, Sept. 19 at 4 p.m.
