LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. (Sept. 19, 2025) – Emma McGrory netted the game-winner in overtime, and
Siena De Roeck tallied two goals in the second half to lead the Stonehill field hockey team to a 4-3 win in its NEC opener at Rider Friday afternoon. With the victory, the Skyhawks move to 1-5 and 1-0 in the NEC, while the Broncs fall to 1-4 and 0-1 in conference play.
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
- Sophomore Emma McGrory's goal in overtime was her first of the year.
- Sophomore Siena De Roeck scored two goals in the second half Friday, giving her a team-high three goals for the season.
- Freshman Havana De Roeck scored her second goal of the year late in the third quarter.
- Freshman goalkeeper Isabelle Morton finished the game with three saves.
- The overtime victory Friday was the first win for Stonehill in an extra session since defeating Rider, 3-2, Oct. 4, 2024 at W.B. Mason Stadium. McGrory also scored that game-winning goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Off a penalty corner, Rider took an early 1-0 lead with 8:42 remaining in the first when Valeria Perales sent a goal into the back of the net off a pass from Megan Normile.
Perales added her second score of the game in the second, making it 2-0 in favor of the Broncs at the 18:03 mark.
Early in the third,
Siena De Roeck got the Skyhawks on the scoreboard with a goal off a penalty corner.
Mary Collins set up the goal with the assist, cutting the Stonehill deficit to 2-1 at 31:01. Minutes later, De Roeck capitalized on a penalty stroke, tying the game, 2-2, at 36:50 with her second goal of the half.
Later in the third, off another corner,
Havana De Roeck got her own rebound off a shot and put it back for a goal that beat Rider goalkeeper Jade Regnart to put Stonehill in front, 3-2, at 41:57.
Midway through the fourth, Normile converted on a penalty stroke to knot the game, 3-3, with 6:30 remaining in regulation.
In the sudden victory overtime, McGrory picked up a loose ball near midfield and beat Regnart with a backhanded goal to give Stonehill the NEC victory.

Stonehill (1-5, 1-0 NEC) will visit Brown (1-2, 0-3 Ivy League) for a non-conference matchup in Providence, R.I. on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 1 p.m.
