CHICAGO, Ill. – The Stonehill men's soccer team opened NEC action on the road against Chicago State on Sunday afternoon. On the blue field the Skyhawks battled the Cougars valiantly but dropped a 2-0 decision over 90 minutes.

STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
  • Cade Likhite made his second straight start in net for the Skyhawks recording a pair of saves.
  • Nathan Lagoa recorded three shots, including two on net.
  • Chris Hines led the way firing off four shots.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Skyhawks controlled the tempo in the opening minutes with the majority of the action being in the Chicago State defensive end. In the first 20 minutes, the Skyhawks out shot the Cougars, 6-0, but the Cougars struck first off a transition in the 22nd minute. Hilary Odhiamo knocked the first goal of the game into the lower right of the net to give the Chicago State the 1-0 lead.

Chicago State added an insurance goal in the 60th minute to take the two-goal advantage. But Stonehill was resilient and was not giving up. In the 75th minute, they looked primed to score with senior Shane Fonseca heading a ball towards right but the Cougar goalkeeper came up with a diving save to preserve the shutout.
