ORONO, Maine. (September 6, 2025) – The Stonehill College field hockey team dropped a 5-0 decision to Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon in Orono, Maine. The loss moves the Skyhawks to 0-3, while the Bobcats improve to 3-1.
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
HOW IT HAPPENED
Following a back-and-forth start, the Stonehill offense generated early pressure with a pair of penalty corners from
Karleigh Mirabile at the 9:18 and 9:37 marks. Both opportunities produced shots, including one on target from Houben.
Despite the early chances for the Skyhawks, Quinnipiac struck first at 12:11 in the opening quarter when
Maaike Van Wensen netted her first goal of the season off a feed from
Rozmarijn Van Keulen.
Stonehill nearly found the equalizer just 55 seconds into the second frame, as
Mary Collins earned a penalty corner and fired a shot narrowly wide of the Quinnipiac cage. That chance proved to be the best of the quarter, as both teams were held off the board and the Bobcats carried a 1-0 advantage into halftime.
Quinnipiac controlled the second half, adding four goals to stretch its lead to five. The Skyhawks pushed late, including a
Havana De Roeck shot that glanced off the post and a pair of penalty corner opportunities, but were unable to break through as the Bobcats secured the 5-0 victory.
