Whynot Nets Two, Achtyl Seals 4-3 Overtime Win Over Saint Anselm

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (January 10, 2026) – The Stonehill College women's hockey team secured a two-game weekend sweep over NEWHA rival Saint Anselm on Saturday afternoon, earning a 4–3 overtime victory on home ice at Bridgewater Ice Arena. With the win, the Skyhawks improved to 10-11-1 overall and 10-5-1 in conference play, while the Hawks fell to 11-10-1 overall and 11-4-1 against NEWHA opponents.

  • Sophomore Reagan Whynot led the Skyhawks offensively with two goals, marking her first career multi-goal game and second straight multi-point outing.
  • Senior Maddi Achtyl added her team-leading 13th goal of the season, while first-year Summer Combe lit the lamp for her rookie team-high fourth of the year.
  • Seven different Skyhawks recorded an assist, including first-year Payton Palsa, junior Makenna Slocum, and seniors Brianna Walkom, Gracie Sacca, Lily Barrett, Lily Geist, and Lucie Turcotte.
  • Senior netminder Eve Stone earned her fourth win of the season, stopping 32 of 35 shots faced between the pipes.

How It Happened
Stonehill came out of the gates strong in its return to home ice Saturday afternoon, peppering Kayla Czukoski and the Saint Anselm defense with 13 shot attempts—12 of which were on target—over the first six minutes of play. The Skyhawks were rewarded at the 10:07 mark of the opening period when Combe lit the lamp after retrieving a pass from below the goal line off the stick of Walkom.

The two sides were locked in a back-and-forth battle over the next 15 minutes of game time until Brooklyn Schneiderhan found the back of the net shorthanded for Saint Anselm 5:51 into the second period, leveling the score at one apiece. At the 11:56 mark of the middle stanza, the Hawks grabbed their first lead of the contest as Eden Granley fired home a shot off an assist from Schneiderhan.

Trailing 2–1 entering the third, Stonehill and Saint Anselm traded flurries of offensive-zone pressure through the opening 10 minutes of the frame before the Skyhawks headed to their third power play of the game at the 9:35 mark. Just over a minute into the skater advantage, Whynot pounced on a loose puck just outside the crease following initial shots from Palsa and Slocum, burying her second goal of the weekend to even the score at two.

Less than five minutes later, on another power-play opportunity, Whynot struck again, firing home her second goal of the night to regain the Skyhawks' one-goal advantage. However, at the 17:06 mark, Schneiderhan went top shelf to net her second goal of the day, tying the game at three and forcing overtime.

Stonehill wasted no time in the extra frame, netting the game-winning tally just 30 seconds in. Sacca and Achtyl skated in on a 2-on-1 break, where Achtyl rifled a shot over the shoulder of Czukoski and into the back of the net for her fourth game-winning goal of the season, capping off a 4–3 comeback victory for the Skyhawks.
