How It Happened
Stonehill controlled offensive zone possession throughout the opening period, outshooting LIU 14–5 over the first 20 minutes and opening the scoring in the final three minutes of the frame. After an initial shot from Whynot was blocked by a Sharks defender in front, Achtyl pounced on the loose puck and snapped it home for her team-leading 14th goal of the season, surpassing her previous career high of 13 set during the 2023–24 campaign.
Carrying a 1–0 lead into the first intermission, the Skyhawks looked to extend their advantage with a power play just 1:34 into the second period. LIU successfully killed off the opportunity, however, and used the momentum to score twice in a 95-second span to take its first lead of the contest. Grace Babington evened the score at the 6:22 mark before Addison Robillard slipped the puck past Stone at 7:57 of the frame to give the Sharks a 2–1 edge.
Stonehill answered later in the period, tying the game at 14:52 following a faceoff win by Achtyl. Barrett and Spadone connected on the play, with Spadone finishing to knot the score at two apiece heading into the third.
The teams remained locked in a back-and-forth battle throughout the final period until a late major penalty gave LIU a five-minute power-play opportunity with 4:23 remaining in regulation. The Sharks capitalized on the advantage, as Drew Dyczkowski netted what proved to be the game-winning goal at the 16:10 mark, her ninth tally of the season.
