STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Junior center
Ridvan Tutic recorded his third double-double of the season to guide the Stonehill men's basketball to the 69-60 road victory over Wagner early Sunday evening to climb back to .500 in conference play.
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior center Ridvan Tutic registered his third double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
- Tutic has reached double figure rebounds in four of his last five games.
- Junior guard Davante Hackett came of the bench to net 20 points for just the second time this season
- Senior guard Rex Sunderland tied his season-high dishing out six assists.
- Senior guard Chas Stinson netted 14 points, while graduate student Raymond Espinal-Guzman rounded out the quartet in double figures with 11.
- The Skyhawks shot 54.2% from the field in the second half and were five-for-nine as a team from beyond the arc.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Skyhawks found themselves down early, trailing the Seahawks, 7-2, but answered. Sophomore guard
Trenton Ruth knocked down a fall-away jumper to ignite the offense and cut the deficit to one.
Junior center
Ridvan Tutic stepped up, using his size, to swing momentum over to the Skyhawk bench as Stonehill trailed by just one heading into halftime.
Coming out the at the start of the second half, there was no let up by the Skyhawks. Tutic continued to power his way in the post to, capping off a 7-0 Skyhawk run with a hook shot that gave the Skyhawks the 32-31 lead.
While the Seahawks continued to hang around, the Skyahwks kept their foot on the accelerator. Senior guard
Chas Stinson started to heat up, knocking down his second three pointer of the game to put Stonehill in front by three midway through the second half. And they did not look back.
