NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (Oct. 1, 2026) – The Stonehill men's soccer team opened NEC play falling to Central Connecticut State, 1-0, on the road in and early evening Thursday night contest.
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
- The Skyhawks edged out the Blue Devils in shots, 11-10.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Blue Devils were quick to jump on the board first, scoring in the 10
th minute. The Skyhawks continued to hang around. Freshman
Maciej Rusiecki gave the Skyhawks their best opportunity to tie the score with six and quarter remaining in the period. Rusiecki striped the ball away and went one-on-one with Blue Devil goalkeeper Carter Fitzgerald, but was knocked away over the crossbar.
When the teams returned at the start of the second half, the Skyhawks were threatening to score the equalizer edging out the Blue Devils, 3-1, on corners in the second half. At the other end of the field, sophomore
Felix van der Hagen kept the game a one-score match with a massive save in the 69
th minute.
Stonehill tried to capitalize and swing momentum over to their side. Senior
Chris Hines nearly scored the equalizer with an off-balance shot attempt in the 73
rd minute, but was unable to find the back of the net.

Stonehill begins a three-game home stand on Sunday, October 4 hosting Le Moyne at 1 p.m. on Skyhawk Field.
