PROVIDENCE, R.I. (October 2, 2026) – The Stonehill College men's hockey team battled No. 9 Providence to a 3-3 tie in an exhibition matchup Friday night at Schneider Arena.

Stonehill struck first at the 16:24 mark of the opening period when Gibson buried a wrist shot off a feed from senior

After carrying a one-goal lead into the first intermission, the Skyhawks saw their advantage erased as the Friars scored twice within a 1:25 span. Aleksi Kivioja knotted the game at one before Julius Sumpf gave Providence the lead with a shorthanded tally.
Stonehill pulled even late in the second period when Lepper deked through the defense before beating the Providence goaltender with a backhanded shot.
The Skyhawks regained their one-goal advantage in the third period when Rep fired a shot into the net from the near-side blue line.
However, Ryder Cali redirected a shot past Vaccari with 1:24 remaining in regulation to level the score at three and force overtime.
After the five-minute, three-on-three overtime period went scoreless, the game headed to a shootout, where Providence prevailed, 1-0, following Logan Sawyer's tally.
