Softball Stalled by Providence in Midweek Twin Billing

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (March 11, 2026) – The Stonehill softball team dropped Wednesday afternoon's doubleheader against Providence, 10-1 and 11-0.

STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
  • Freshman Jade Sanders made a diving catch down the left field line in the bottom of the third.
  • Freshman Juli Murillo went 2-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored from the top of the Skyhawks' lineup.
  • Sophomore Sarah Taylor went 3-for-8 with an RBI single in game one.
  • Junior Harper Sullivan went 1-for-2 with a double in game one.
GAME 1 – PROVIDENCE 10, STONEHILL 1

Stonehill was quick to score, taking a 1-0 lead in the first. Freshman Juli Murillo opened the game with a single into left then scampered up 60 feet on a throwing error by the left fielder. Murillo came in to score two batters on a base hit through the right side off the bat of Sarah Taylor.

The lead was short-lived as the Friars answered and tied up the game in the home half of the frame. Providence went on top an inning later pushing across a run in the second then added another two in the third. It was more than enough for Friars pitching as they kept the Skyhawks off balance.

GAME 2 – PROVIDENCE 11, STONEHILL 0
The Skyhawks were threatening to jump out in front once again at the start of game two. Murillo reached a one-out base hit back up the middle then quickly got herself into scoring position with a steal of second. But the Skyhawks were unable to bring her in.

Providence's bats picked up where they left off in game one, scoring twice in the bottom of the first. In the second inning, they sent 11 batters to plate to scoring six and extend their lead to eight and there was no looking back.
