PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Stonehill softball team nearly split Thursday afternoon's twin-bill with non-conference Brown, but was edged out by the Bears by final scores of 6-5 and 9-1.
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
- Sophomore Sarah Taylor went 4-for-4 with an RBI from the middle of the Skyhawk lineup in game one.
- Junior Harper Sullivan went 2-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBIs in game one.
- Freshman Juli Murillo went 2-for-6 with two runs scored and a walk on the day.
- Sophomore Taylor Schoonmaker went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored from the top of the order in game one.
GAME 1: BROWN 6, STONEHILL 5
Stonehill jumped out in front scoring a run in the top of the first. With runners in scoring position and one out, junior

Brown answered in the home half, pushing across four runs to take a 4-1 lead. But junior right-hander
Alexa Hospodar settled down in the circle and kept the Skyhawks in the game. The Skyhawks cut the deficit in half with Sullivan roping an opposite field double into left field to plate Melani Snyder in the top of the third.
While the Bears increased their lead to five with two runs in the bottom of the third, the Skyhawks were resilient. Hospodar did her job and kept the Brown offense off balance allowing the Stonehill to mount a comeback.
The Skyhawks plated a pair of runs in the top of the fifth taking advantage of runners in scoring position and a defensive miscue by the Bears to pull to with two runs. An Inning later, they were breathing down the necks of the Bears once again thanks to an RBI single up the middle off the bat of sophomore

GAME 2: BROWN 9, STONEHILL 1
Game of the day was another close game early on. After a quick first inning, Brown grabbed the two-run lead in the bottom of the second. But the Skyhawks answered in the top of the third with Murillo scoring after a bout of wildness from Bears game-two starter, Edie Cobb.
Brown responded in the fourth. Sending nine batters to the plate, the Bears pushed across five runs to take a 7-1 lead before adding another two in the fifth.
