EASTON, Mass. (March 5, 2026) – The Stonehill women's basketball team toppled Chicago State by a score of 69-61 on Senior Day at Merkert Gymnasium Thursday evening.
The Skyhawks conclude the regular season 12-17 overall (8-10 NEC), while the Cougars stand 9-22 (8-10 NEC).
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS:
- Brooke Paquette scored a career-high 29 points, hitting nine field goals and going 5-of-6 from the foul line. Paquette also came down with nine rebounds. She now ranks 33rd in school history with 1,051 career points.
- Ella Pelletier recorded her second-straight double-double and fourth of the season, scoring 11 points and grabbing a career-best 14 rebounds.
- Amaya Dowdy scored a season-best 14 points and blocked two shots.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Two of Stonehill's seniors
Amaya Dowdy and
Paige Martin scored early baskets, but the Skyhawks trailed, 10-8, midway through the first quarter. Late in the frame,
Brooke Paquette drained a long triple to bring Stonehill back within one, 16-15.
After the game headed to the second quarter with Chicago State holding a 18-15 lead,
Ella Pelletier hit a three-pointer from the win to put Stonehill in front, 20-18. The Skyhawks continued to shoot the ball well in the frame and upped their lead to 33-24, as Paquette (16 points) and Dowdy (10 points) both reached double digits in scoring in the first half. Stonehill carried a 35-26 lead into the break.
In the third,
Ella Pelletier sent a pass to
Julia Webster for a layup as the Skyhawks maintained the lead, 40-33. In the final seconds of the third, Paquette beat the buzzer with a three-pointer to keep Stonehill on top, 53-42.
The Skyhawks maintained a 10-point advantage for much of the third, as
Breana Delaney hit a three from the corner to make it 65-55 with just under four minutes to play.
UP NEXT:
Stonehill (12-7, 8-10 NEC), the seventh seed, will now ready for the NEC quarterfinals, as the Skyhawks will travel to face No. 2 seed Mercyhurst (14-15, 14-4, NEC) on Monday, March 9 at 6 p.m.
