WEST WINDSOR, N.J. (April 16, 2026) – The Stonehill College men's tennis team saw its five-match winning streak come to an end Thursday afternoon, falling to Wagner College, 4-2, in the NEC Quarterfinals at the Mercer County Tennis Center.
Stonehill dropped the doubles point after Wagner secured wins on two of the three courts.
Benjamin Beaudry and
Javier Gutierrez paired up for the first time since October and delivered a dominant 6-1 victory over Pablo Rodriguez Gonzalez and Joshua Zhao at No. 2 doubles. Wagner answered with a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles, setting up a decisive match at the top spot.
Jacob Borch-Nielsen and
Nicolas Arredondo pushed Lukas Escher and Eddie Schmidt to a tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles, but ultimately fell 6-7 (1-7), giving Wagner the early 1-0 lead.
In singles play, Wagner clinched the match by winning three of the five completed contests.
Alessandro Munoz quickly evened the score for the Skyhawks with a convincing 6-0, 6-4 win over Vibhu Challagundla at No. 5 singles, extending his personal win streak to seven matches.
After losses at No. 2 and No. 4 singles put Stonehill behind, Beaudry responded with his second win of the day, defeating Tom Lamers 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles for his 14th victory of the season.
Despite narrowing the deficit to 3-2, Wagner sealed the match at No. 1 singles, where
Guillermo Bennaton battled through two tight sets before falling 6-7 (4-7), 5-7 to Schmidt.
