Softball Rally Comes Up Short in Series Finale at New Haven

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (April 26, 2026) – Despite a rally in the middle innings, the Stonehill softball team dropped the series finale to the New Haven on Sunday afternoon. The Skyhawks won the series against the Chargers following yesterday's doubleheader sweep.

STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sophomore Sarah Taylor went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in the top of the second.
  • Senior catcher Jessica Brill was 1-for-3 at the plate while throwing out one Charger.
  • Freshman shortstop Juli Murillo was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base from the top of the lineup.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first inning New Haven jumped on the board first scoring a run in the home half of the first. However, the Skyhawks minimized the damaged with senior catcher Jessica Brill throwing out Bella Chenet trying to steal second.

The Skyhawks answered in the top of the third. With two outs and a runner in scoring position, sophomore Sarah Taylor beat out an infield single through the left side as freshman Juli Murillo came around to tie the game at one.

New Haven re-gained the lead in the bottom of the third, putting up a crooked number four to take a 5-1 lead. But Stonehill responded, taking advantage of defensive miscues by the Chargers to push across a pair of runs and cut the deficit to two.

They came within a run of the Charger scoring in the top of the fifth, but a three-run response by New Haven extended the lead to four and they never looked back.

UP NEXT
Stonehill returns to the Fr. Gartland Field diamond on Tuesday when they host Rhode Island for a single game at 4 p.m.
