Seventh Inning Rally in Game Two Comes Up Short as Softball Clipped by Knights

TEANECK, N.J. (May 2, 2026) – The Stonehill softball team dropped Saturday afternoon's NEC doubleheader to FDU.

STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
  • Senior Jessica Brill led the Skyhawks going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a run scored in game one.
  • Freshman Juli Murillo went 3-for-4 from the top of the lineup with a run score in game two.
  • Sophomore Taylor Schoonmaker drove in all three runs in game two of the doubleheader.
GAME 2: FDU 5, STONEHILL 2
Stonehill struck first in the top of the opening frame. Freshman Juli Murillo led off the game and eventually crossed the plate thanks to an RBI single from sophomore Taylor Schoonmaker, giving the Skyhawks an early 1-0 lead.

FDU responded with single runs in the second and third innings to take a narrow, 2-1, lead. Stonehill's starter, junior Alexa Hospodar, kept the Skyhawks within striking distance through five innings, but the Knights broke through in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead to 5-1.

The Skyhawks didn't go quietly. After freshman Luka Bornhorst worked a one-out walk in the seventh, Schoonmaker delivered again with a sacrifice fly to right field that brought home Bornhorst and cut the deficit. However, the rally ended there as FDU's Maryjane Limon closed out the complete-game win.

GAME 1: FDU 11, STONEHILL 3
Stonehill jumped out to a promising start in the first inning when freshman Juli Murillo crossed the plate following a sacrifice fly by Sarah Taylor. However, FDU responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning with five runs.

The Skyhawks chipped away in the second inning as Jessica Brill scored on a Natalie Bottiglieri sacrifice bunt, cutting the lead to 5–2. FDU maintained pressure, adding runs in the 3rd and 4th innings to extend their lead to 8–2.

In the 5th inning, Stonehill managed one final spark. Pinch runner Luka Bornhorst scored on an RBI single by Juliana Alicea, but the rally was short-lived. FDU sealed the victory in the bottom of the fifth scoring three runs.
