STONY BROOK, N.Y. (May 8, 2026) – The Stonehill women's lacrosse team dropped its NCAA tournament first round matchup to No. 5 Stony Brook by a score of 19-5 at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium Friday afternoon.
The Skyhawks, who won the NEC regular-season and tournament championships, conclude their season 13-7, while the Seawolves improve to 18-2.
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS:
- Stonehill earned its first trip to the NCAA Division I tournament after winning the NEC tournament and regular-season titles.
- Nina Tremonte made 11 saves to finish with 175 for the season, good for third most in team history. Tremonte also played all 1200 minutes in net on the season.
- Natalie Coutu dished out four assists on the day, giving her 38 on the year, which ranks fifth for a single-season in Stonehill history.
- Taylor Green recorded her fifth hat trick of the season to lead the Skyhawks' scoring output.
- Sophia Gouveia and Emma Kail buried their respective 48th and fifth goals of the year, while Grace Murphy dished out her 15th assist of the season.
- Val Beigel matched her season-high of three ground balls to lead the team.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Stony Brook grabbed an early lead and controlled play for the first quarter, taking a 9-0 lead into the second quarter. With 11:26 remaining in the second, Gouveia, the NEC Rookie of the Year, took a pass from Coutu and scored to get the Skyhawks on the scoreboard, 10-1.
In the third, Green found the back of the net on a player-up goal with another assist by Coutu at 7:49. Green scored again later in the third quarter at the 2:53 mark, with Coutu assisting for the third time.
With 9:56 remaining in the contest, Murphy sent a pass in front to Kail, who buried a shot for another Skyhawks' goal. Green clinched her hat trick with goal at 5:53, as Coutu collected her fourth assist of the day.
