WORCESTER, Mass. (Aug. 28, 2026) – The Stonehill field hockey team opened its season at Holy Cross, dropping the road contest by a score of 2-1 Friday evening at Hart Turf Field & Hart Track.
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS:
- Isabelle Morton recorded a career-high 19 saves, including seven in the first half and eight in the fourth quarter alone.
- Karleigh Mirabile notched her first goal of the season and eighth of her career, while Emma McGrory assisted on the tally, giving her five career assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Through the first two quarters of action, Stonehill and Holy Cross were tied, 0-0, as the Skyhawks withstood pressure from the Crusaders in the first half.
Isabelle Morton turned aside seven shots in those first 30 minutes.
Early in the third,
Karleigh Mirabile put the Skyhawks in front, 1-0, off an assist by
Emma McGrory at the 31:30 mark.
With 37 seconds remaining in the fourth, the Crusaders knotted the game, 1-1 with a goal off the stick of Martina Di Gregorio to end the shutout bid by Morton, who had stopped eight shots in the fourth frame alone.
In the extra session, Holy Cross was awarded a penalty stroke at 65:32, and Saskia Williams converted to give the Crusaders the win.
