NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Stonehill volleyball team picked up its first win of the season knocking off LSU New Orleans in four sets, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon.
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
- Sophomore Sam Loyd posted a .500 attack percentage with 12 kills on 20 attempts and just two errors.
- Sophomore setter Kendra Sawyer paced the offense with 42 assists, while added 12 digs for the double-double.
- Sophomore Cat Detweiler also notched 12 kills on 25 attempts for a .320 attack percentage.
- Senior Addy Frye led the way with 20 kills and also tallied a double-double with 10 digs.
STONEHILL VS. LSU NEW ORLEANS
The Skyhawks and Privateers battle each other in a back-and-forth first set until New Orleans started to pull away late. But they showed their resilience and battled back to pull within two of the lead, but the Privateers took the first set, 25-21 . Sophomore
Cat Detweiler led the Skyhawks with four kills on 10 attempts.
Stonehill opened the second set, building their biggest lead of the day, taking. 7-3 lead early, but New Orleans utilized a 5-1 run to tie the set at eight. The Skyhawks cranked their offense in to gear, hitting .480 as a team, they staved off a Privateer rally to claim the second set, 22-15 and even the match at one.
Momentum appeared to have switched over to the Skyhawks bench. They built an early lead in the third thanks to tremendous serving by freshman
Reegan Mishkin. Stonehill would not relinquish and take the 2-1 match advantage.
The Skyhawks continued into the fourth set and slammed the door on the Privateers, hitting .313 in fourth to claim the 25-17 victory and the match.
